Is Now a Good Time To Convert Your Home?
It seems many homeowners are turning to Architects to design their homes amidst a national crisis
Following the Prime Ministers announcement earlier this week the future certainly seems a little brighter; the end maybe in sight. However it leaves many home owners in a quandary whether they should now take that leap of faith and start the process of converting or extending their homes. How is it even possible when everyone is meant to be isolating?

Whilst many home owners have been stuck indoors feeling their home is too small but are either unable or are too worried to do anything about it, many have been getting on with it. In fact Glenn Williams Managing Director of The Architects Of London (the Kensington based luxury brand of Bluelime) says he has never seen it so busy.
“2020 has been absolutely phenomenal for us, it’s been our busiest year to date. Don’t get me wrong, we have had to make many changes in our business to ensure the design journey for our clients is not adversely affected by this global pandemic. We believe it’s impossible to totally rely on a remote/online design service. As architects my team must meet our clients at their home to get the full perspective and feel of the property. You simply cannot get this remotely. So we have had to adopt new technology such as 3D site scanning and Virtual Reality, make it mainstream and usable in a COVID compliant environment. In effect, this crisis has made us better at what we do and our clients are loving it.”
It certainly seems that way. In the last two months The Architects Of London have opened a further eight offices across London and are already undertaking some amazing residential projects across the capital.

So what do our clients think of renovating their home in the current national climate?
Kim Quach was one of those homeowners who was not deterred by current restrictions in place. Kim started the design process with The Architects of London pre COVID but was not deterred in any way when things kicked off in March 2020. Kim was able to see exactly how her new home was going to look when she had the full immersive design experience provided via virtual reality.
“It was truly amazing, like I was actually there in my new home, walking around. We were well into the design process by the time COVID started in 2020 so it was a no brainer to keep going. COVID will get under control eventually and we will be in a position to get building when that happens.” Kim Quach.
So clearly there is still confidence in the residential extension and conversion market. With the end in sight, the decision to spend money on your home might simply come down to priorities – House or Holiday? Only you can decide but it certainly seems many have gone with the former.
