Design and install a new staircase to give access to the roof terrace and installation of a new skylight to create more natural light in the stairwell
What was included in this home renovation project?
Undertake designs for a new Velux/skylight in the roof to achieve more natural light in the stairwell
Provide a cantilevered staircase from the living area/top of the existing staircase to the roof leaving sufficient landing space in the Living area.
Architectural services carried out during this project:
- Early liaison with Building Control to incorporate required safety barriers around the opening and to prevent falls from a height over the roof edge.
- Consulting with Building Control about the adequacy of existing safety railing around the roof.
- Inspection of the construction of the existing roof to ensure it would take the weight of the roof terrace and meets building regulation requirements.
- Explore a variety of staircase design options such as open risers and modern vs traditional designs.
- Applying for planning permission and building control approval.
